Inthe modern internet and vast technology development times, there hasbeen an increase in the volume of data sent and received from oneperson to another as well as within organizations. This increase inthe amount of data available for use by individual organizations hasled to the development and establishment of database managementsystems (Abbasi, Sarker &amp Chiang, 2016). The Database managementsystem can be referred as a computer generated an application thathelps in capturing and analyzing data with its integrated functionsbeing to define, create, query, update as well as administerdatabases. With the massive adoption of technology, there has beenthe unending development of products to help towards the managementof the ever growing information. More so, the volume of informationis growing bigger every day, and in turn, there is a need foreffective management of the information to be of help in the businessworld and individuals and in turn the ever growing demand fordatabase management products (Thomsen, 2016). This paper is ananalysis of two commercial products that are found in the area ifdatabase management, their product description, offerings andtechnical usability.

Thedatabase management area has seen numerous companies investing in itleading to massive development in terms of products developed foruse. Some of the vending companies include Microsoft, IBM, Sybase,Oracle, Freeware, Computer Corporation of America, Point base amongmany other products. On the other hand, the applications aredeveloped for different markets such as desktop, mobile, enterprise,open source, etc. on the other hand, there has been varying databaseswith regard to the type of file/information being managed i.e.,music, normal computer files, photos, programs among others. Types ofdatabase management systems include relational database management,in memory, cloud-based, Columnar

Informix

Oneof the databases to have been developed is the “Informix’. Knownas IBM Informix is a product by the technology giant company IBM,which has been in the business for quite some time now. This is aproduct centered with the relation database management system. Havingbeen originally developed by the Informix Corporation, the productswere later acquired by IBM in the year 2001. IBM has continued toadvance and market the product to the users. With regard to theproduct definition, it is classified as an object-relational modelwhich in turn allowed the users to support data types that falloutside the SQL standard. With regard to this, the one that iscommonly used is the time series and that of spatial extension, whichin turn allows the users to have a high-performance domain not tomention the availability of efficient storage space for data sets inrelation to time series and spatial data (Chen Chen &amp Liu, 2008).IBM also offers to train to its Informix users to ensure they get thebest from the application in terms of data management.

Informixhas developed to become of the database application to have beendeveloped by the IBM. The application is used for harnessing datafrom countless devices that are connected depends on the device’sability to access, store and query the available data.it is anembedded database has been a revelation as its ability to integrateSQL and NoSQL has been a revelation to its user. The application hashelped in bridging the gap that has been there between relationaldata and the upcoming computer technology, which is targeting the bigdata field, cloud as well as mobile computing (Kacprzyk Zadrożny &ampDe Tré, 2015). Being an optimized and an embedded database, Informixbrings intelligence to edge devices that are then used in the localdecision making not to mention the seamless integration withanalytics. With its numerous versions, the application has been arevelation of the database management cases. The application relatesto several uses and in different fields with data management, whichinclude spatial data, amended database, could compute, datawarehousing, smart meter data among others (Chen Chen &amp Liu,2008).

Teradata

Thisis another database management application that is a relationaldatabase management application or system. The management system isdesigned to offer the users a very high performance, diverse querieswithin the field of in-database analytics and the ever growingworkload management. Focusing on the application, some of itsfeatures include provision of faster answers, with their 30-yearexperience, the company has grown to become of the leading indatabase management systems when it comes to big data management(Chen Chen &amp Liu, 2008). One of the major development or gainsfrom the adoption of the application is that it supports largervolumes of data warehouse, more than all its competitors combines.More so it can be used in different applications such as enterprise,data marts, internet and ‘EBusiness’, customer management not tomention active data warehousing.

Teradataruns as a shared-nothing architecture with its technology comprisingof hardware’s, databases as well as consultancy. Many businessorganizations have adopted the Teradata systems for informationwarehousing. One of its merits is the ability to support differentusers at the same time not forgetting its ability to run on differentcomputer systems such as UNIX, Windows, etc. referred as the world’smost powerful database, the system has proved a breakthrough withregard to the application of big data management. Not only doesTeradata offer analytic solutions to business and its users, it alsooffers technology and industry solutions (Alagiannis et al, 2015). Onthe other hand, the platform offers products such as big dataarchitecture software, cloud for analytics among others. In summary,the Teradata application is applied within the platform of large datawarehousing.

Thekey features that define the Teradata include parallelism and theeffective distribution of data load among different usersconcurrently. On the other hand, the Teradata product depictsscalability, efficiency as well as ability to execute complexqueries, which all of them makes it effective for use both by largeand small business enterprise. On the other hand, the key componentsthat make the application or product a stand out compared to itscompetitors include. Teradata query, TDP, FastLoad, MultiLoad, andTrump among many others.

Inconclusion, the massive development of the internet world and theincrease in volumes of information being sent and received betweenpeople and organization continues to fuel the innovators to continuedeveloping more application related to data management systems. Inaddition to Informix and Teradata others include the ‘OneDrive’with Microsoft Company, the Amazon Simple DB, Oracle, SQL Server, andSAP Sybase among many others. As the data becomes a critical tool inthe modern business world, data management platforms/systems have inturn gained much importance hence their massive adoption in businessand organizational management. Wish such developments and products onoffer, there have been more use of information generated by abusiness turning it into an important tool for business use.
